How to buy a stainless steel keyboard
In September, Microsoft said it would sell $1 billion worth of its $1.9 billion stake in the company that makes the Surface tablet.
That meant the company was likely to sell around $600 million worth of the keyboards.
In a letter to investors, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the company planned to sell about 5,000 of its products at a price tag of around $2,000 each, though the company did not specify how many keyboards it would be selling.
The company has said it expects to sell up to 1 million of its own keyboard designs, although it has not provided a breakdown of how many.
Some of those keyboards will feature a unique color, and some will be based on the designs used in the Windows 8 operating system.
A handful of keyboards, including the keyboard from Lenovo, could be coming in black, silver, gold or silver metallic.
The price tag on Microsoft’s shares has been on the rise since the company announced its plans to sell its Surface business.
The stock has surged in recent weeks, reaching an all-time high on Friday before falling slightly.
The shares have lost almost $700 in value since the letter was sent.
